Liverpool will be expecting a comfortable victory when they visit struggling Portsmouth in their next Premier League encounter on Saturday.
The Reds could move top of the league table for at least a day if
they manage to beat Portsmouth with Manchester United scheduled to play
on Sunday. Liverpool go into the match on the back of a disappointing
1-0 defeat to Everton in their FA Cup replay on Wednesday.
After three successive draws, Liverpool returned back to winning
ways with a brilliant performance in their 2-0 win over Chelsea and
manager Rafa Benitez will be hoping to keep up the pressure on
Manchester United with another win on Saturday.
However they will be without captain Steven Gerrard who will be out
of action for at least three weeks with a hamstring injury. Sol
Campbell will be available for selection for Portsmouth after a spell
on the sidelines due to a hip injury. Manager Tony Adams could hand
debuts for new signings Angelos Basinas and Theofanis Gekas though
Armand Traore and Younes Kaboul are doubtful for the match
